Colourfastness & Dyes

We use professional-grade fibre reactive dyes (Procion MX) — the gold standard for dyeing natural fibres like cotton.

Unlike basic or craft dyes, these don’t sit on the surface of the fabric. They form a permanent bond with the fibres during the dyeing process.

That means the colour becomes part of the garment — not just something applied to it.

Why this matters: Fibre reactive dyes chemically bond with cotton, resulting in brighter colours, better washfastness, and significantly less fading over time compared to surface-level dyes.

What You Can Expect

  • Long-lasting colour that stays vibrant over time
  • Minimal fading when properly cared for
  • No heavy bleeding after initial washes
  • Soft feel — no thick or coated texture

Each piece is thoroughly rinsed and washed after dyeing to remove excess dye, so it’s ready to wear.

Colour Behaviour (The Honest Version)

Hand-dyed garments have character — and that includes how colour evolves.

  • Slight softening of tones over time is normal
  • High-contrast designs may mellow slightly with repeated washing
  • Each piece ages uniquely based on wear and care

This isn’t a flaw — it’s part of what makes hand-dyed clothing feel alive and personal.

Built to Be Worn, Not Babied

These aren’t delicate art pieces you need to worry about.

They’re made to be worn regularly, washed normally (with basic care), and enjoyed over time.
